Jewelry for me is either just pretty or a kind of a memory marker. Like this bracelet. It was given to me by my host 'parents' where I stayed on from my very first visit to the US, on a four week language training course.
When I look at it I remember: the first flight I took and the roundabout way we had to take. The first sleepy gaze at Los Angeles from the air at midnight: as stars fallen to earth. The smell of the city and the warm wind brushing my skin while waiting for customs, for the bus. My love of American Indian art, especially Navajo, even though this bracelet came from Mexico. The first earthquake, three point something, I don't even wake up for that anymore :). The Mexican food I discovered ... all the things I fell in love with. After that first trip I intended to come back - and I was lucky enough to be able to do that, again and again.
